The Real Problem With Image Consultants

103 6
They say that if you want to run for higher office, you need an image consultant, but why? Why can't people just be themselves, and why can't the greatest leaders amongst us rise from the people with strength and honor, and the personal character to be who they are? Why do we need fake people, Alice in Wonderland story lines, and Hollywood smiles? Why can't we judge people on their ability to lead, their intellect, and their strength of character? What's with all the hype? What on earth is wrong with us, why do we need that perfect image, and why are we willing to entertain people who project and purport that which they are not? We all know that they do it, and I want to know why we accept this.
Not long ago, I met an image consultant online and she had all kinds of great advice on her website, and she's worked with some very top and well known people.
Somehow, I was interested in what she had to say so I subscribed to her newsletter and started receiving e-mails.
After reading a few of these, I felt as if what she was doing was not actually right, and that the illusions she was creating for people were not fair to the general public.
When I unsubscribe to her newsletter, she e-mailed me and asked me why.
The simple reason was; "I am not in need of anything that you offer.
" But the reality is I disagree with people who are fake and I don't think it's fair to help other people carry on a facade.
Creating a false image with the use of image consultants is the very opposite of transparency, and one who engages in this activity is being purposely deceptive.
If they are being deceptive about who they are and projecting an image of which they are not, how can you trust anything they ever say? Now then, I'm not going to sit here and make a statement about our current president or the incredible amount of PR, posturing, teleprompter reading, or image consulting that he has engaged in.
That is not my purpose.
Nevertheless, if we want to protect the integrity of America we should not be promoting people who are projecting a falsehood, and allow them to be subjected to the Peter Principle at our expense.
Further, one thing that bothers me about image consultants, is many of them have not achieved success in their own right, and yet, they have decided to work with other people to project an image of success.
But how on earth would they know what the true reality of a successful person is? And we the public, how would we know what a true successful person is like, if everyone is projecting a false image? This means we are promoting the wrong role models, and therefore, we get more people who are fake, overly politically correct, and never say what they really think, how they really feel, or let their hair down so we can understand their real person.
The reality is I don't like the fake world that image consultants are creating.
Because I believe it to be a false and created reality, one which is unfair to everyone else.
Indeed, I hope you will please consider this.
