Those with creativity and a talent for dance may consider a career in the industry. Dance styles include ballet, modern or contemporary, jazz and culturally specific styles such as salsa. Employment opportunities often fall under the categories of education, arts management or administration, performance and dance therapy. Many career areas want candidates with at least a bachelor's degree in dance. Pennsylvania is a home to colleges and universities offering dance as a major. - The University of the Arts in Philadelphia is the first and only university in the nation to offer programs solely in the performing, visual and communication arts. The school is divided into three colleges: art and design, performing arts, and media and communication. The College of Performing Arts is composed of three schools specializing in music, theatre arts and dance. The School of Dance offers the B.F.A (bachelor of fine arts) in ballet, dance education, jazz dance and modern dance. Students gain experience performing in Philadelphia's Wilma Theatre, Kimmel Center and Academy of Music. Graduates of the school have performed with companies such as Cirque du Soleil and The Joffrey Ballet in addition to Broadway productions like "Cats."

According to the university's website, 84 percent of graduates were employed full time and 83 percent live in Pennsylvania as of 2009. Point Park is divided into schools of arts and sciences, business, communication and performing arts. The Conservatory of Performing Arts offers bachelor's and master's degree programs in cinema and digital arts, theatre, acting--and dance. Students gain first- hand experience through the university's Pittsburgh Playhouse, where they learn from faculty, choreographers and guest artists. Rehearsal and performance facilities include the Hilda Willis Tap Dance Studio and the George Rowland White Performance Studio, the second largest studio in the city.
