How to Make an Iron Skillet Stop Sticking
- 1). Wash the iron skillet with a stiff scrubbing brush coupled with hot water and several drops of liquid dish soap. Rinse the skillet well under hot water after washing. Dry with a clean towel.
- 2). Pour 1/4 cup of cooking oil into a small container and dip a section of a folded paper towel into the oil. Rub the oil over the entire surface of the iron skillet -- inside and out. Put the pan to the side.
- 3). Set the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Tear off a piece of aluminum foil that will be large enough to cover the bottom of your oven and place it inside the appliance. The foil will help catch any messy drips of oil from the skillet.
- 4). Place the iron skillet upside-down on the top rack of the oven so that the oil can drip down and coat the pan. Leave the skillet heating in the oven for one hour.
- 5). Turn the oven off after one hour, remove the pan with oven mitts and place it in a safe cooling area, such as on a cooling rack. Store the skillet, uncovered, when it's completely cool.
