  • 1). Avoid the start. In any event, spectators are not allowed on the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge, or any bridge along the course.

  • 2). Try Fourth Avenue in Brooklyn. This is about the longest stretch of the course, and you'll have lots of local company.

  • 3). Head to the best spots in Queens. That's 51st Street, and 44th Drive from Vernon to Crescent Street.

  • 4). Remember the Bronx. The best place to be in this borough is on 138th Street from Alexander Avenue to Third Avenue.

  • 5). Enjoy the race in Manhattan. You can see the event on First Avenue, from 59th Street to 115th Street.

  • 6). Go to Central Park. The best locations are 90th Street and Fifth Avenue, 82nd Street on the East Drive and along the East Drive from 70th Street to 65th Street.

  • 7). Watch the drama of the final miles on Central Park South from Fifth Avenue to Columbus Circle.

  • 8). Avoid the finish line at the Tavern on the Green. But if you feel you must, you'll need to arrive there at about 10:30 a.m. to reserve a spot.
