Cruises Can Be Fun for Singles too

103 12
Most people who think of a cruise think of it as something the family or at least a couple does together.
However, a cruise is also the ideal vacation for the single, too.
It can be the perfect trip for the intrepid explorer looking to travel the world before settling down for a career or family.
Cruise companies and travel agents are starting to pay more attention to marketing to singles too.
And who knows, if there's a special someone in your future, maybe you can meet them on the ship? Having all that time to spend at leisure just invites getting to know each other.
If you are cruising alone, you will most likely either have to pay an extra supplement for a private cabin, or simply be paired up with a cabin-mate.
This type of service, available through some cruise lines, tries to find the best compatibility through a singles-matching service between cabin-mates, who are usually of the same sex.
Most people say it doesn't make much difference who you get, since you won't be spending your time hanging out in your cabin with activities all over the ship.
Still, there's something to be said for having a private stateroom.
It may be worth it to pay extra for the elbow room, and to use the room for a workspace should you be writing of your adventures.
You can also find specific cruises for singles.
Singles cruises include all of the amenities of other cruises, as well as activities and events geared specifically to the single lifestyle.
If the cruise mixes singles and couples, usually a separate dining and socializing area will be reserved for the singles.
Beyond that, there will usually be separate schedules for singles broken into age categories, with events for the 50-age cluster being different from the ones for the 30-aged crowd.
You need not worry about being stuck at a Baby Boomer luau when you're 27, nor at a Goth concert when you're 53.
Generally, there are three types of single travelers: those who are just looking for an affordable way to travel on their own (and I always say those who travel alone travel fastest!), a single who's in search of fun and romance with other singles, or the single parent traveling with children.
These last are actually considered "family groups", and don't much fit in with the singles category as the family cruise vacation category.
For the singles with an eye towards dating, you can almost always count on being treated to private cocktail parties, dine-around group seating so you can mix and meet with new people every night, and dances, and package shore excursions.
When you book a singles cruise, the company may even have a site set up where you can chat and instant message with your future shipmates, to get to know each other a little before you set off.
No longer are cruises the exclusive domain of the retired couple in their golden years.
More and more of the younger set are discovering that a cruise getaway is an ideal vacation option.
A cruise to a vacation destination for the single can be much more of an adventure than if you waited until your mature years.
Plus, you establish previous-guest status with the cruise company, which will lead to discounts later on when you come back for your next adventure.
As you can see, there are plenty of reasons to cruise even if you're single, so don't let the lack of a partner hamper your adventures.
