The 2004 model year saw the addition of a special performance variant of Cadillac's CTS sedan, the CTS-V. The CTS-V gave Cadillac a performance sedan unlike any of its other models. Utilizing a Corvette engine, the CTS-V brought world-class performance to the Cadillac brand, previously seen only in more costly German sedans. - The 2004 and 2005 model years of the CTS-V sport sedan are powered by General Motors' naturally aspirated LS6 engine. This is the same 5.7 L V-8 motor from the 2001 to 2004 Chevrolet Corvette Z06, with slightly different output specifications. The CTS-V's LS6 engine is a 16-valve OHV design with a 3.90-inch bore, 3.62-inch stroke and a compression ratio of 10.5 to 1. This powerplant produces 400 hp at 6,000 rpm and 395 ft-lb of torque at 4,800 rpm, while reaching its redline at 6,500 rpm.
- The 2004 and 2005 CTS-V derive their power from an LS6 engine, while the 2006 and 2007 models, which are built on the same chassis, are powered by the General Motors LS2 engine. The 6.0 L V-8 LS2 engine is sourced from the base C6 Corvette and has the same power output and fuel economy as the LS6, but with a different power band offering improved acceleration compared with its predecessor. This is why performance enthusiasts generally favor the later models of the first-generation CTS-V.
- The 2005 CTS-V has a 3,875 lb. curb weight that sits on a 113.4-inch wheelbase, with a front track of 61.1 inches and a rear track measuring 61.4 inches. The sport sedan's body is 191.5 inches, and the vehicle is 70.6 inches wide and sits at 57.3 inches in height. The mid-size CTS offers a 36.1-foot turning circle.
- The 2005 CTS-V sport sedan has a zero-to-40 mph time of 2.8 seconds, while offering a zero-to-60 mph time of just 4.7 seconds and a zero-to-90 mph time of 9.2 seconds. The CTS-V's 5.7 L LS6 engine pushes the vehicle through the quarter-mile in just 13.1 seconds at 109.8 seconds. Cadillac employs 14-inch vented front brakes and 14.4-inch vented rear brakes to slow the CTS-V down from 60 mph in just 111 feet.
- The 2005 CTS-V's combination of an LS6 V-8 engine and 6-speed manual shifting yields 16 mpg city and 25 mpg highway.
