How to Make Clay Glaze
- 1). Measure out equal amounts of kaolin, silica, wollastonite, frit 3134 and potash feldspar using a scale. Mix them together in a clean bucket. Each ingredient should make up 20 percent of the mixture, so adjust the amounts based on how much glaze you want to make. For example, 100 grams of dry glaze would consist of 20g of each ingredient, and 800g of dry glaze would consist of160g of each ingredient.
- 2). Slowly add water to the dry ingredients and mix until the glaze has the consistency of low fat milk. Mix well to ensure the glaze has no lumps.
- 3). Place a sieve over a second clean bucket and pour the glaze into it. Use a rubber spatula or a similar tool to break up any lumps and help push the glaze through. Repeat this step until the glaze is as smooth as possible.
