How to Make a Steel Fire Pit
- 1). Build the pit using four 2x6 pieces of lumber, creating a frame with sides 54 inches long and 6 inches high. Use mitered ends for clean corners and galvanized screws to prevent rust.
- 2). Paint or stain the outside of the box if desired.
- 3). Fill the frame two-thirds full with sand and pack until level.
- 4). Settle the steel bowl in the sand. A steel fire bowl can be purchased at most home improvement stores.
- 5). Fill the area around the bowl with more sand to secure it.
- 6). Pile decorative rocks around the bowl on top of the sand.
