    Ethics Training

    • Ethics cover a broad range of behaviors. For example, your company may believe in sustainable manufacturing or promote "green" initiatives. As you learn about the goals of the company, you become more aware of keeping the company's image. You may be developing a new product and because of your ethical training you may change the design to a more eco-friendly material. Ethics can also be as simple as owning up to a mistake. Where the training helps is that you may not have considered what is ethical or not in a certain situation. Training increases your awareness of situations.

    Types of Training

    • Depending on your work environment and the topic, several forms of training can be used. A cultural sensitivity class may be taught in a small group or it can be an e-course that an employee takes individually. One-on-one training may be presented by a manager to an employee. Perhaps an employee is quick to explain how he wasn't at fault for a situation. A manager may coach him that he should own-up to his part in the problem. The manager may also spend some time teaching teamwork within a group.

    Certified Training

    • Some training that is behavioral is very specific. If you work in an environment that has safety issues such as manufacturing, employees require behavioral training on safety topics. Many of these courses are presented by an experienced trainer, and the employee is expected to have a certain level of knowledge at the end of the class. Typically, a test is given and the employee receives a certificate to show he understands the material. An example of this is Occupational Safety and Health Association (OSHA) training. A person takes this training to understand the dangers of certain behaviors in the workplace. An example of a class that impacts safety is personal protection equipment. This is training that is used to modify behavior for the safety of the employee and others. If an employee doesn't wear safety glasses, an accident could cause an injury. The training teaches the behavior of understanding the value of protective equipment and replaces bad habits.

    Rewards

    • A company that believes in the behavioral training it presents should also strive to acknowledge when good behaviors occurs. This is a type of training from positive reinforcements. For example, if an employee handles a touchy situation with professionalism, the employee can be recognized for being a company advocate or similar distinction. Rewarding good behavior is a way to teach outside of a classroom by example.
