Military team-building exercises are of the utmost importance for the safety and efficiency of troops on their way to high-intensity combat situations. The entire military works as a huge team with the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines dividing into smaller teams, such as platoons, regiments, battalions, squadrons and batteries in the Army, for example. Every team member must recognize his part in the whole and become teamwork-oriented for the military to accomplish its various aims. The National Guard stages combat team-building exercise and training events for current and prospective Guard members and the public. Guard members and guests go through a computer simulator, ropes course and paintball course to simulate combat obstacles and situations. "Today's Military" reports that infantry and other combat troops take part in realistic combat simulation exercises with actors, special effects and explosions designed by a Hollywood effects company before being deployed. Combat simulation training gives troops a chance to make mistakes and improve teamwork performance before heading to the front lines of real combat. Military teams are instilled with the strict importance of adhering to team goals of eliminating threats and treating wounded teammates. - The U.S. military employs realistic role-playing exercises to train teams of combat medics. "Today's Military" describes intense medic training situations with strobe lights, smoke machines and the sounds of gunfire to simulate combat medical rescue scenarios. Medic teams struggle together through simulated chemical attacks, explosions and obstacle courses to rescue actors playing victims with injuries from amputations to bullet and shrapnel wounds. Medic teams learn to make split-second decisions together to ensure the maximum safety and efficiency of the team and the injury victims. Teams gain experience in working fast and intuitively together in chaotic combat scenarios they will potentially face in wartime.
- Military units employ wilderness skills training companies such as Ancient Pathways in addition to wilderness survival skills learned in boot camp. Military team members undergo survival camps to learn to work smoothly and effectively together in deep wilderness situations. Combat units sometimes find themselves stranded away from supply lines and must have the skills to stay calm together while securing food, water, shelter and fire in uncivilized, wild situations. The U.S. Government hires Ancient Pathways to conduct winter, desert, and general outdoor survival courses at bases in Oregon, Arizona and California.
