What Is a Septic Effluent Pump?
- When the septic field lines are located a long distance from the septic tank, or at a higher elevation, it becomes necessary to pump the material from the tank to the field lines. In these instances, an effluent pump is installed inside the septic tank.
- The effluent pump is installed in a second chamber of the septic tank. This tank is separate from the main chamber to help minimize the amount of solid waste around the pump.
- Effluent pumps are constructed for long-term use under harsh conditions. While not intended to move solids, these pumps have the durability and power to move more than water. These pumps are intended for years of submersed service.
- An effluent pump is similar to a submersible sump pump but is intended for more continuous duty and a longer life span than most sump pumps.
- Most effluent pumps have a built-in filter to help prevent clogs and damage to the pump. These filters must be cleaned periodically in order for the pump to operate at maximum efficiency.
