How To Fix Error 651 In Windows 7

103 66
If you have tried to initiate the broadband dialer in Windows 7 and only get a Windows 7 Error 651 returned, this means your modem has reported an error.
Now if you are like most, you will have already tried to restart your PC, your router, your cable or DSL modem etc.
Naturally it is a little more difficult to look up the error if your internet is down.
The very first thing I would attempt is to re-install the modem.
If you are actually using this, reinstall the model drivers and see if this solves the issue.
They could have been corrupted, incompletely installed, or some other such issue.
If you are not using the modem and are connecting via an ethernet or wireless adapter, there is no harm in removing this and some reports have said this can solve the error.
If using a standard ethernet card, try uninstalling and reinstalling those drivers as well.
If you have installed or uninstalled any applications that might be using these connections and that hasn't solved the issue, try running a registry cleaner.
Some keys might be sitting out there, but this is more of a good practice thing than a surefire solution.
If you have used Windows 7 Virtual PC or Suns VirtualBox, take a look at those.
They usually uninstall cleanly, but running a registry cleaner can make sure.
Both of these interface with the networking settings, so may generate this error if something has caused a conflict with the drivers.
As a last ditch effort, there is a particular driver file that comes up in a lot of reports.
The driver file "raspppoe.
Sys" found under c:\windows\system32\drivers folder has many people reporting it as cause of the problem.
It is possible to try renaming the original "raspppoe.
Sys" file to something like "raspppoe.
bak.
" Then try copying a new version of the file from a different PC or searching the internet.
Once you have backed up, renamed the file, and replaced it with a "new" version restart your PC.
Once rebooted try initiating a new connection and see if you still get the Windows 7 error 651.
