How to Spray Auto Primer
- 1). Put on your paint mask and shake the can of spray primer vigorously so that its contents are thoroughly mixed.
- 2). Hold the nozzle of the spray can about 8 inches away from the surface of the car and spray in short, controlled bursts. This will help keep the primer from pooling, running and dripping.
- 3). Let the first coat dry completely. This should only take a minute with finish primer, but high-build primer needs at least five to 10 minutes to dry.
- 4). Apply a second coat, and let it dry thoroughly. If you plan to apply a third coat, let the second one dry for several hours, or even overnight.
- 5). Optional: Hold a blow dryer 10 inches from the surface of the wet primer and keep it moving at all times to help the primer dry a little faster.
