How to Assemble a Laser Scanner
- 1). Download the free version of the David laser scanner software and install it on your computer.
- 2). Print out the calibration document that comes with the laser scanning software download. Cut out the print on the marked area and attach it to a piece of cardboard. Bend the cardboard at a 90-degree angle with the calibration points attached.
- 3). Launch the David software on your computer by clicking on the desktop icon.
- 4). Connect a webcam to your computer. Wait for the David software to recognize the webcam. Select the model of your camera in the "Camera" field.
- 5). Turn on the camera and check if the calibration is right. You should see a red "X" mark on the calibration points on the live camera window on the computer.
- 6). Put the object that you wish to scan in the calibration corner in front of the camera. Get the laser pointer and turn it on. Point the beam of light on the object.
- 7). Press the "Start" button on the David window to start scanning. Brush the laser on the object from top to bottom and bottom to top repeatedly. Do this at a constant speed. The David software will begin rendering the object. Keep on running the line laser over the object until the scanning process is complete. This may take as long as 10 to 15 minutes.
- 8). Save your data by pressing the "Save" button.
- 9). Enhance the features of your scanned data by adding texture, color and other properties that are included in the toolbar tab. The David software will do the shape fusion for you upon entering the necessary details. Click on the "Save" button again to save your final work.
