How to Clean the Material of Gym Shoes
- 1). Fill a bucket with warm water then add 1/4 cup laundry detergent and 2 tbsp. of all-fabric bleach. Mix the soapy solution by stirring it with your hand.

Take the laces out of your gym shoes and wash them in the washing machine. Dip a small scrub brush in the soapy solution, then scrub the exterior surface of your gym shoes. Use an old toothbrush to scrub along grooves in your gym shoes. - 3). Refresh the soapy solution on your scrub brush and continue to scrub until you've removed any stains or dirty areas. Rinse the scrub brush in plain, cool water and use it to rinse your gym shoes and remove the soapy solution. Run the scrub brush under the water, frequently, so you're removing the soapy solution from the gym shoes rather then scrubbing it back in.

Towel dry your gym shoes by pressing a clean, dry towel against the gym shoe material. Fill the insides of your gym shoes with crumpled up paper towels to help wick out moisture on the inside and keep the gym shoes' shape. Place your gym shoes outdoors to dry or near an open window. - 5). Remove the paper towels from inside the gym shoes when they're nearly dry. Sprinkle baking soda inside your gym shoes and allow it to sit inside your shoes and deodorize them for two to three hours. Turn your shoes upside down and tap at the soles to remove the baking soda.
