How to Transfer Data to a Cell Phone With a USB
- 1). Install any provided software and driver installation CDs. Most smart phones have the installation CD packaged with the phone. Insert the CD into the disc drive of the computer, then follow the prompts of the installation wizard to install the cell phone software onto the system.
- 2). Open your Web browser if you don't have the software installation CD. Navigate to the cell phone maker's website, then select the "Support" option, followed by "Drivers and Downloads." (This wording may differ depending on the website.) Choose the cell phone you are using, then the operating system on the computer. Click the download link next to the software and driver downloads to download them. Double-click the downloaded content and follow the prompts of the installation wizard that loads to completely set up the drivers and software.
- 3). Connect the USB data cable into a USB port on the computer, then plug the other end into the USB power port on the cell phone. Power on the cell phone if it isn't on.
- 4). Launch the software you have now installed on the computer. This detects the phone, giving you different options of file types to load (such as "Video" and "Music"). Drag the files into the open program window to transfer the data onto the phone. If, however, there is no program for you phone and only a driver installed, proceed to the next step for the transfer process.
- 5). Click "Start," "(My) Computer," then double-click the cell phone icon. A window loads displaying all the files on your cell phone. Select the folder that represents the file type you want to transfer, then drag the file into the open window to transfer the data onto the phone.
