How to Mount a TV Antenna in the Attic

    • 1). Assemble the television antenna in the attic, closely following the manufacturer's instructions. Make sure you secure all bolts, screws and fittings tightly.

    • 2). Attach the attic antenna mast mounting bracket to a hard, flat surface, such as an interior rafter or rafter support. Ensure there is enough room to position the antenna. Most attic antennas ship with a selection of suitable mounting brackets and fixings. Use a screwdriver or wrench, as appropriate, to attach the bracket to the surface.

    • 3). Fix the mast to the bracket, using the supplied mast clamp and fixings. Position the mast horizontally or vertically to suit the orientation of the antenna.

    • 4). Install digital television-grade RG-6 coaxial cable from your attic to your TV set or digital converter box. Use a power drill to create passage holes through walls, floors and ceilings. Try to keep the entire cable run inside and install the cable along the most direct route to reduce signal loss. Clamp or tie the coaxial cable every 3 feet to secure it.

    • 5). Fit an F-type coaxial cable connector to the TV end of the cable run. Connect the other end of the cable to the antenna signal output jack.

    • 6). Switch on your TV set and digital-converter box. Through the set-up menu, perform a channel scan to retune your equipment. You can tweak the position of your antenna to maximize television signal quality.
