Attention deficit disorder, also known as ADD, is a disorder that causes impulsive behavior and difficulty paying attention. While ADD may have some element of hyperactivity, that is more characteristic of attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder, otherwise known as ADHD. ADD has negative impacts on life, including disruption of sleep, relationship, and school issues. - Sleep disturbances, and poor sleep in general, is a common issue faced by those with ADD. Furthermore, many of the medications used to treat the condition are stimulants, such as Ritalin, which can increase issues such as insomnia. In addition to not being able to fall sleep, other sleep disturbances include waking up throughout the night and not being able to go back to sleep.
- The impulsive attributes of someone with ADD can carry over into nighttime sexual issues. Thus, ADD can cause impulsive sexual decisions and behavior. In addition, being restless is another contributing factor. This can lead to committing adultery, or even hiring a prostitute, which is illegal. Feeling deprived of something, such as sex, is difficult for someone with ADD to handle.
- Nighttime bedwetting is another ADD symptom. While children and teens diagnosed with ADD have higher incidences of bedwetting, there is no conclusive evidence as to which one causes the other. It is surmised that perhaps neurologic issues or impulse control play a part in it.
