Six New Sitcoms on Satellite TV This Season

While the world of reality television seems to have dominated a lot of what is currently on screens in living rooms across the country, the sitcom is not entirely dead yet. It is still managing to hold its own, despite the fact that more people are interested in teenagers getting drunk in New Jersey for the summer, and there have actually been a number of sitcoms that have managed to grab ratings, despite the fact that most fictional programs on television lately seem to be more focused on bringing some drama into lives and homes.

If you're going to look for something more lighthearted on satellite tv but aren't quite sure where to start, then allow these six new sitcoms to act as suggestions for what you might find enjoyable. Just don't forget that sometimes, it takes a couple of seasons for characters to get going in the world of comedy, as far as being original goes. For familiar tropes and unfamiliar but fun new stories, here are six of the most promising sitcoms currently airing on television.

I'm in the Band. Because not all of the new shows on satellite tv are geared towards grown-ups! "I'm in the Band" is a sitcom about four friends who happen to also be in a band that's growing more successful by the minute. Their band, Iron Weasel, is all about the rock and roll, but the kids themselves are still trying to navigate the world of high school. Cute and heartwarming.

10 Things I Hate About You. Airing on ABC Family, this television adaptation of a popular 1990s teen movie--which was actually based on a play by Shakespeare--managed to get a second season to follow the bumpy ride for sisters Kat and Bianca as they adjust to live in California, where they have moved from Ohio. Trying to be popular at high school is more important for Bianca, while Kat is far more interested in being strong-willed and intelligent. The sort of show that the whole family can enjoy.

Good Luck Charlie. Another family-friendly sitcom, "Good Luck Charlie" aired on the Disney Channel bringing a new idea to the world of family-friendly television programming. Designed as a sitcom that is also a video diary of advice for the latest addition to the Duncan family, infant Charlie, it manages to be the sort of show on satellite tv designed to be interesting for both parents and children alike.

Romantically Challenged. A more adult-oriented show set in Pittsburg, "Romantically Challenged" brings Alyssa Milano back to the small screen as a recently divorced single mother who is transitioning to a new life in the 'burg with her children while also adjusting to the world of dating yet again. The show is written by and also stars Ricky Blitt, better known for his work on "Family Guy." Blitt does a surprisingly good job of writing female characters, a point worth noting.

Victorious. Another teen sitcom on Nickelodeon, "Victorious" goes the "Glee" route and focuses on an aspiring singer who happens to be attending a performing arts high school. Deciding to follow this formula, however, appears to have paid off quite well, with Nickelodeon capturing more satellite tv viewers for the show's debut than any other debut on the channel before that was a live-action series.

Gigantic. Designed as a serious look through fiction at the lives of children of celebrities, the show "Gigantic" has managed to net serious viewers and happens to feature actors who are the children of famous celebrities, so they might actually know a little bit about what they are talking about. One of the more poignant dramedy/sitcoms to air on The N in recent years, and definitely an interesting and exciting look at the troubles of being a teen in Los Angeles that follows in the footsteps of satellite tv greats like "South of Nowhere" and "Degrassi."
