How to Handle Stress

Every day, we face different kinds of stressors in our lives. In the workplace, we have our bosses and the ever present deadlines. At home, there are forces that exert pressure on us. Even our children have their ample share of stressors in school, in the neighborhood, or in facebook!

We need to know how to handle stress.

Have a support group

When you have no one to talk to, it's so easy to think that you carry the burden of the world on your shoulders. Friends help us deal with issues or problems of any kind by listening. Find the right clique.

Be your child's bestfriend

Some people find it easy to mingle, while others don't. Bullying at school is rampant and some children including teenagers go through a hard time adjusting to growing up. They need to know that they can reach out to you for help. Talk to them. Let them know that you are there anytime they need help.

There is an increasing number of disturbing cases of suicides due to facebook bullying among children. Teach your kids how to deal with bullies. Monitor your kids for signs of undue stress.

Learn the art of listening

Be extra alert for words or behavior that cry for help.

Spend time with your family

Work will always be there. But your kids will grow and at some point, they will leave you. Be with them as much as possible. This will diminish your own stress level aside from strengthening your bond with your family.

Don't take things seriously

We all make mistakes. Learn to laugh at yours. Laughing will make you feel better and it will change your perspective about the perceived threat to your peace of mind.

Don't take your problems home

When you go home, be present for your family. Focus on what's happening to your loved ones. Don't cloud your vision with work related issues.

Schedule a day for relaxation

You can take minivacations daily by scheduling a break time so you can recharge. Your body can only take so much. It needs to refresh just like your computer from time to time. Aside from daily programmed moments to revive yourself, you need to assign a day of rest so you can restore your equilibrium.

When you have done your part, surrender the uncontrollable

Recognize that some factors are controllable while some are not. Do your part for the ones within your power to address. Those that aren't within your reach, you submit to someone else.

Be grateful

An attitude of thankfulness for everything can beat stress in any form. It will keep you focused on the great things in your life and will allow the forces of the universe to conspire to assist you in meeting your goals.
