SRT-4 Performance
- The SRT-4 is equipped with Chrysler's turbocharged, 2.4-liter, inline-four engine, which also saw duty in the Chrysler PT Cruiser GT. For 2003 models, the dual-overhead-cam, 16-valve unit makes 215 horsepower at 5,200 rpm and 245 lb-ft. of torque at 3,200 rpm. For the 2004 and 2005 cars, power output improves to 230 horsepower at 5,300 rpm and 250 lb-ft. of torque at a much more useful 2,200 rpm.
- According to Car and Driver testing, the 2003 SRT-4 accelerates from zero to 60 mph in 5.6 seconds and charges through the quarter-mile in 14.2 seconds at 102 mph. As for the 2004 and 2005 cars with their increased power output, 0-to-60 time improves to 5.3 seconds, with the quarter-mile coming in 13.9 seconds at 103 mph. Top speed is a drag-limited 153 mph for both cars.
- Car and Driver's staff gave the SRT-4 rave reviews for its handling prowess relative to its price point, calling the car "capable of unwinding your favorite set of back-road kinks in a faster-than-average hurry." Notable on 2004 and 2005 cars is the addition of a limited-slip differential to aid in transferring power to the road in a more seamless manner. On the 300-foot skidpad, the 2003 car recorded .84 Gs of lateral acceleration, and the 2004 model posted .86 Gs.
