How Do I Clean the Bottom of a Cast Iron Tub?
- 1). Moisten your scrub brush with the non-abrasive detergent of your choice.
- 2). Scrub the tub clean.
- 3). Cover soap scum and oil films with a runny paste made of baking soda and warm water (cream of tartar and hydrogen peroxide or borax and lemon juice also make effective cleaning pastes). Leave the paste on until it dries and then scrub it away with your scrub brush. If the film remains, move on to step four.
- 4). Mix a solution of one tablespoon trisodium phosphate and one gallon of hot water. Dip your scrub brush in and scrub away the film. Be sure to wear rubber gloves when handling this caustic chemical.
- 5). Rinse the tub completely clean with cool running water.
