    • 1). Enroll in a boxing or martial arts class such as aikido, karate, kickboxing or kung fu. Information can be found in your local phone directory on where to go, and you can call to ask how much classes cost. Through instruction and sparring, learning how to defend one's self and properly strike will increase your confidence level and better prepare you to remain calm and help quell your fear response when fighting is inevitable.

    • 2). Join a group of people with the same fear. Usually information on such self-help groups can be found through online searches in your area or by contacting local counseling centers, civic groups or the offices of licensed therapists that may sponsor these groups.

    • 3). Consult with friends or family members who recognize your fear and want to help you overcome it. Through role playing certain situations in which the friend or family member acts as an aggressor, you'll be able to play through the confrontation and gradually be able to develop the necessary skills to overcome your natural fear response.
