    Statewide Salaries

    • The average salary that teachers earn in New Jersey is $63,154 as of 2010, according to NJ.com. Median annual wages for New Jersey teachers is $57,467. Some special education teachers earn as much as $61,798 a year. However, some teachers in New Jersey subsidize their annual incomes by working side jobs during the school season and/or part-time jobs during the summer. Part-time jobs that teachers work can generate between $300 and $400 a month.

    Regional Salaries

    • If teachers work in Hudson County, they can earn about $44,087 a year if they have between six and eight years of teaching experience, according to NJ.com. Teachers working in West Orange, New Jersey, earn about $69,020 a year. Additionally, teachers who have graduate degrees typically earn more than their counterparts who only have undergraduate degrees. For example, teachers with master's degrees earn about $3,200 more a year than teachers who only have bachelor's degrees, regardless of the region that they work in.

    Teacher Salaries by City

    • According to Teacher World, New Jersey educators who worked in Camden made approximately $62,970 during the 2009 and 2010 school year. Teachers in New Brunswick and Edison earned $63,350 a year, while their counterparts working in classrooms in Newark had annual wages of $67,290. The state's capital, Trenton, paid its teachers $64,170 a year during the 2009 and 2010 school year.

    Compared to National Salaries

    • New Jersey teachers generally earn more than teachers who work in other states. Nationally, teachers who taught students at elementary, middle and secondary school levels earned between $47,100 and $51,180 a year as of May 2008, according to the United States Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics. The bottom 10 percent of these teachers made less than $35,000, while the top 10 percent of teachers earned as much as $80,970 as of May 2008.
