How to Replace the Gold Line Around a Plate
- 1). Wash the plate thoroughly using a mild dish detergent.
- 2). Place the plate on a rack and allow it to completely dry. Do not dry it with a towel; this rarely gets a plate truly dry, and also may leave behind lint.
- 3). Choose a gold leafing pen with a tip size that corresponds to the width of the remaining gold line around the plate.
- 4). Draw the gold leaf onto the edge of the plate, being careful to keep the line size consistent. You may re-draw the whole line, or only fill in rubbed spots.
- 5). Allow the line to dry completely. Follow the instructions on the pen for drying times.
- 6). Varnish with a clear, food-safe varnish, and allow it to dry overnight.
