How to Get a Song Aired

    • 1). Record your song. The better the recording quality, the more likely it is to be played on the radio. Hire a skilled engineer or producer to make your recording sound good. Remember that radio stations cannot play music with bad language. If your song has swear words, edit those words out.

    • 2). Transfer your song to a CD.

    • 3). Package the CD professionally in a jewel case with artwork and a track listing.

    • 4). Write up a short bio of the band, as well as a letter explaining why you're sending the song. Include phrases such as, "From our forthcoming debut album" and "On tour this summer." Also mention if you have a similar sound to other, more familiar, bands. Keep the bio and letter to one page total, and place it inside the CD case.

    • 5). Send your CD to the radio station's music director. This contact information is most likely on the radio station's website. If the information is not online, call the station.

    • 6). Contact the music director, through email or phone, at least two weeks after you mailed your CD. Ask if he's received it and whether he will be adding it to the station's rotation.

    • 7). Request the song by calling the radio station. Get your friends and supporters to call too. However, avoid obsessively calling the station, as this can be irritating.
