DIY Vinyl Fence Installation
- 1). Measure for the proper distance between fence posts (consult the instruction manual for your brand of vinyl fence to find the right distance, which is equal to the length of the prefabricated fence sections).
- 2). Dig a 12-inch-diameter hole, 30 inches deep at the spot where each post needs to be so that the middle of the hole lines up as neatly as possible with the center of each post.
- 3). Pour 6 inches of gravel into the bottom of the post hole, set the post in the hole on top of the gravel, then cover the gravel with with quick-set concrete mix until level with the top of the hole, making sure that the mix is more firm than usual so that you can place the posts and have them stand up straight while you adjust their position. To make the concrete more firm, add 20 percent less water than the instructions call for.
- 4). Check to see that each post is vertically level, that the center-to-center distance is uniform between each post, and adjust periodically while the concrete is still wet if the posts shift.
- 5). Wait until the concrete has dried completely (usually this takes about 24 hours). Screw the fence rail brackets to the vinyl fence posts using the pre-made bracket holes and the provided screws.
- 6). Insert each one of the vinyl fence sections into the brackets between each set of posts.
