Productivity Tips - Schedule Your Success on the Calendar

103 14
You are a busy person who has a lot going on in your life and like lots of other people you set goals for the things you'd like to accomplish, but somehow it seems like you don't accomplish as many of those goals as you would like to.
AM I right? If you are anything like me, you start off with a lot of energetic fervor and make some initial progress, but then life gets in the way and your momentum begins to slip until before you know it you've fallen back into your old, well-worn routines and achieving that new goal is a distant memory.
But let's take a look at why that happens.
You fall back into your old routines, but why? It's because those old routines are habits that you have learned by repetition.
Think about the first time you went to your work place.
You found it on the map and left home early to allow enough time to navigate there through unfamiliar streets.
But after having followed that same route every morning and evening for years you know that route like the back of your hand because by doing it over and over again you created new pathways in your brain.
If you want to accomplish a goal that will require you to change your behavior you will have to establish a new habit that will support that new behavior.
Experts tell us that it takes 21 days to create a new habit.
After performing the desired behavior every day, preferably at the same time each day, for 21 days you will no longer have to think about doing it because you will have created a new pathway in your brain and it will come as naturally as your path to work.
I was listening to one of my favorite podcasts, Internet Business Mastery, and Sterling and Jay were discussing this exact issue.
They talked about how important tracking your new, desired behavior or skill by scheduling it on your calendar.
I'm all about using tools to help improve my productivity, so I cracked open my Google calendar and I created two new calendars: one for tracking client projects and the second for training and self-study, which is where I will be tracking my new habits.
I recommend that you listen to IBM episode #113 because they even have a few suggestions for habits that you might want to cultivate as an Internet business entrepreneur.
I spent a few minutes this morning geeking out over learning how to add items to my Google calendar from my iPhone.
There's a short code: 48368, that you can use to send a SMS message to your calendar to check what's on your agenda for the day, or add a new event while you're out and about.
Just go to your Google calendar and register your mobile phone number first.
Some of the new habits that I plan to incorporate include: focusing on building my email list, working on my book daily, and reaching out to prospective partners for joint venture projects.
What new goal will you schedule and create a new habit to support?
