There are many attractions to see in Northern France. You can start at Lille with the Museum of the Hospice Comtesse. This museum used to be the former hospital that was established in 1237 by the Countess of Flanders, Joan. Today, this museum is home to an impressive collection of paintings, furniture, wood carvings, and pottery from the region. When you are done with the museum, you can then head to the Grand Place, the main square in Lille where the Vieille Bourse is located. There are lots of historic buildings, cafes, and terraces around the square, making it a good starting point for a sightseeing tour. The Cathédrale Notre Dame is a famous landmark in the region, being a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Calais is another place in Northern France that will impress you. If you are fond of lighthouses, visit the Calais lighthouse. It offers a lovely view of the city, the harbor, and the areas where fighting happened during the Second World War. You can also head to the beach and enjoy the waters as well as the soft and clean sand.

Le Touquet has its own share of attractions that you should not miss. The Cape beach boasts of a beautiful holiday resort. The Estuary Park, with thousands of sea birds attracted to it, is near the Cape beach. The birds nest there and wade in the shallow waters.

Shopping You will also love shopping in Northern France. You can check out the row of factory shops in Roubaix, a suburban community just north of Lille. Right in the heart of Lille are in-town shopping options, like Les Quatre Boulevards, a modern shopping mall that is lined up with dozens of shops. If you are hunting for books, head to Le Furet du Nord, one of the largest bookstores in all of Europe. It has a good selection of English books as well as titles on Flanders and France. If you are on the lookout for modern day couture, visit Faubourg des Modes, where cutting edge clothes of young designers are on sale.

Nightlife

For tourists who like to relax after a long day, the northern part of France offers a wide variety of restaurants, clubs, and cafes for the tired and weary souls.
