With the ever increasing number of patients in the hospitals, it becomes quite difficult for the hospital management to check whether all the patients are well attended, administered the right treatment, adequately taken care of and helped in all the hospital procedures. Sometimes, they may come across with some of the patient complaints about the treatment measures, pricing policies or the behaviour of the doctors. Then, they have to plan an enquiry into the matter and discover the flaws. But, this may be only one issue which they have suddenly noticed. There may be many others which also require their attention, which they are unaware of. So, it's vital for the hospital management to conduct patient satisfaction surveys from time to time.
This will help the management to determine the areas in which the patients are fully satisfied and ones which require improvement. They will also become aware about the doctors and nurses which the patients applaud and the ones which the patients have complaints about. Thus, the management can felicitate the hospital staff who do their work with full dedication and help the patients to the fullest. This will also motivate the hospital staff to carry on their good work and assist the patients and their relatives in the best way. The heads of the hospitals can also have a word with the staff members about whom the patients have voiced their complaints while conducting the customer satisfaction survey. Those staff members can be given a warning to improve their quality of work and if the need requires, the hospital can arrange for a training or seminar for the fresher staff members.
There may be times when the patients may have communication issues with the hospital staff. For example, the overseas patients may not know the local language and may not be well versed with English either. So, they may have problem communicating their issues with the staff members. If many of the patients complain about this language barrier, then the hospital management can arrange for an interpreter or communicator so that the patients can communicate their problems freely and get them rectified at the earliest. The patient satisfaction surveys also enhance the patients trust on the hospital. They realize that the hospital is taking vital steps to know their issues. Thus, the patients will have a feeling of belongingness towards the hospital and will turn towards the hospital time and again when the need arises!
