Inline Chlorinator Installation

104 8

    Installation

    • Install the inline chlorinator in the pool return line and place the return line between other components of the circulation system including the heater and the pump. Turn off both the pump and filter systems and close the valves.

Install the device in an upright position with the lid side facing up. Cut the pipe at the location that is right for where you want to install the inline chlorinator. Place the corrosion-resistance swing check valve at the return side which is between the heater and the chlorinator in the direction of the flow to the pool. This part must be bought separately. Use PVC solvent cement to glue the chlorinator and the check valve into place.

    Operation

    • Before placing the chlorine tablets into the device ensure that the pump and filter are turned off. Turn off the valve of the inlet side of the chlorinator and close it tight. Turn the lid counterclockwise. When you are filling it, do not keep the area covered but let the fumes be ventilated. Place the first tablet flat on the face of the screen and add any more on top of that. Do not allow the tablets to be stacked above the line of reference indicating that it is full.

Open the inlet valve and turn the pump and filter system back on. Check the system for leaks. Set the filter cycle time accordingly. This could take a number of tries to get the right one for your own pool use. Turn the knob to meet at the mid-point of the indicator. Wait for one or two days to allow the chlorine levels to become stable before making any adjustments. Use a chlorine level test kit to check what the level of chlorine is. The normal settings are between 1 and 2 PPM, so for numbers below one, set it at a higher level and for numbers above 2, set it lower.

    Maintenance

    • Before performing any maintenance always turn off the pump and filter systems and close the valves. Take the lid off of the chlorinator, and lift up the screen from the bottom. Use a 1 inch socket to remove the check valve. Wear protective eye goggles while cleaning. Use a brush and a hose or some other device that uses high water pressure to clean the inside of these parts.

Use Teflon tape if you have to replace the check valve. If you find calcium deposits, add a small amount of acid to clear them away. For persistent problems with calcium build up, call a professional.
