How to Use the Rule of Repetition for Better Photos

103 22
Many times photographs can turn out dull and boring.
There is nothing to catch the viewer's eyes, so therefore it is passed off as uninteresting.
One way you can make your pictures better is with the rule of repetition (ROR).
What the rule of repetition means is having repeating elements in your photos.
So for example, if you are shooting a product shot for colored pencils, instead of having just one colored pencil, have 20 arranged in a circle pattern.
The repetition of the colored pencils will attract the attention of the viewer and make the person more likely to appreciate your picture.
Let's be sure you understand exactly what is meant by this compositional technique.
If you were shooting a photograph of a busy street, would you want to zoom in on just one street lamp or get broad view of many repeating street lamps? The better decision would be to choose the broad view with a repeating element (street lamps).
By using ROR, it can reinforce the implied statement the picture is making.
Here the implied statement would be that the street is very busy.
Also be sure you utilize ROR along with other factors to enhance your pictures.
One such way would be to also incorporate the rule of thirds into your picture, which means to always place your subject in or near a corner, and never in the center.
This way the audience will appreciate the whole shot and not just some of it.
With the knowledge you now know about using the rule of repetition in your shots, you should be producing some winning pictures in no time.
