How to Put Music on an iPod Nano Using a Slow Computer

    • 1). Use a built-in Windows utility to speed up your computer before loading iTunes. Click on "Start." Type "msconfig" into the search bar on Windows Vista and 7 or choose "Run" and type "msconfig" into the Run dialog box. This opens the Microsoft System Configuration Utility. Click the "Startup" tab along the top to reveal a list of every program that loads when your computer boots into Windows.

    • 2). Click "Disable All" to turn off all these programs. This doesn't uninstall anything, it just stops Windows from opening the program at startup. You can still access these programs through the Start Menu. Click "OK" and then reboot your computer when prompted. It should load much more quickly now, which will allow you to load iTunes more quickly and, subsequently, to transfer files to your iPod more quickly.

    • 3). Connect your iPod nano to your PC using the provided USB cable. If this is the first time you've connected the device, wait a few minutes while Windows configures it. Open iTunes and look for the device in the left-hand side under "Devices." All your media will be displayed in the main iTunes window, but you can sort it by clicking on different media types under "Library."

    • 4). Click on a song in the main iTunes window and hold down the left mouse button. Drag the song over to your iPod nano under "Devices" and let the mouse button go to transfer it to the iPod. Select multiple songs by holding the "Ctrl" key while you click or press "Shift" and click a second to select all the songs in between. You can also set up iTunes to sync automatically with your iPod each time you plug it in, but this process may slow down iTunes and be too much for old, slow PCs.

    • 5). Click the small eject icon next to your device after the songs have transferred to eject it safely. Wait a few seconds for the iPod to realize it has been ejected, then disconnect the USB cable.
