How to Create Mixed Media Art
- 1). Cut out areas of your photographs that interest you. Think about whether you want to focus on a project that is more realistic or abstract, and select areas that will fit your plan. For an abstract piece, cut out areas of objects that will not be recognizable. Cut pieces of different sizes for variety.
- 2). Glue your pieces of photograph to the poster board in different areas. Be creative while thinking about the final layout. You will be drawing and painting over and around them, so keep that in mind.
- 3). Draw onto areas of the poster board around the photographs. You can even draw over the photographs for effect. The final picture is up to you, so try different things like shading and varying the types of lines (such as straight or curved).
- 4). Paint over the mixed media work using the acrylic paint. Mix colors that create dynamic contrasts or the blend in with the photographs, depending on what you want to see in the finished work.
