Activities to Delight in Downtown Dusseldorf
The European railway system allows for passengers to reach the city of Dusseldorf from almost any major European town. In addition, the airport serving both domestic and international passengers is another busy transportation hub for the city centre of Dusseldorf.
Hotels in Dusseldorf City Centre are in abundance, as are the many activities that can entertain tourists on day-to-day basis. There are no secrets to be revealed when tourists get there. Everything visitors need to know about Dusseldorf and its primary activities is listed below.
Konigsallee: Dusseldorf is a famous city for its shopping, and its best and brightest shopping district has to be the Konigsallee district. It contains many boutique shops, not to mention a plethora of the biggest brands in international fashion. The district is made up of two streets that have a canal separating them.
Carnivale: definitely the biggest event in the year, the Dusseldorf Carnivale is a wonderful festival that includes parades, music and thousands upon thousands of people. It is held from the 11th of November, and lasts for several days.
Natch der Museen: also known as the Night of Museums, this is where the city opens its downtown museums to the public at night. It is a tremendously popular evening, especially for people living around the city of Dusseldorf. Other cities have the same event throughout the year, although not at the same time.
Kirmes: families will love the Kirmes festival, especially the kids. There is an event held beside the river, just to the north of the downtown heart of Dusseldorf. It is filled with exciting rides, including roller coasters and skymasters, not to mention several beer gardens for the adults.
Flingern: this is the fashion centre for the city, and a haven for shoppers. It used to be a residential area, but now is one of the central shopping districts in the city.
Altstadt: Dusseldorf is extremely proud of its old town, or Altstadt, which is why this district is the most visited in the city. Just because it withholds some of the oldest (or at least looks the oldest) structures in the region, the old town is not necessarily the best place to visit. It's the culture that tourists can experience that makes this district the crème de la crème for tourism. Just a note, the Altstadt was devastated during the war, but city officials rebuilt the area using a carefully designed historical setting.
Museum Tours: some of the best tours of Dusseldorf downtown are the museum tours which can be found from the museum itself or tourist centre. There are several museums worth exploring. The Film Museum is one of the best places to visit, and the Stadt Museum (or city museum) explains to patrons everything about the town of Dusseldorf.
Boat Tours: the Rhine is one of Europe's most beautiful rivers. It passes along the centre of Dusseldorf, and can be explored by boat from the downtown area of the city. Boat tours are largely inexpensive, and can last from anywhere between an hour and half a day. Meals are sometimes provided by boat packages.
Dusseldorf Marathon: each year, the Dusseldorf Marathon attracts thousands of spectators and athletes who come for the largest athletic meet in the state. The streets of the downtown area, including the old town, or Altstadt, are filled to the brim with crowds and excitement.
