Under Sink Water Filters - Which One Should You Buy?

103 13
This scared me to death.
The water we get in our homes is so heavily polluted, drinking it unfiltered is a sure way to fall ill and get some deadly diseases.
Using under sink water filters has become a must now due to this heavily polluted water.
Using under sink water filters or counter top filters is a matter of your preference, really.
It doesn't really make a difference where your filter is placed - it's their ability to purify the water that really matters.
The most common types of filters available in the market are actually not that efficient in purifying water.
They have some serious limitations that prevent them from removing the contaminants present in the water.
Let's find out what these are.
Carbon filters are the most basic kind of filters you can find in the market.
These filters are able to remove the dirt and the Chlorine present in water, but not other chemicals like pesticides or pharmaceutical drugs.
So, a major part of the impurities are still present in the water purified by these units.
A Reverse Osmosis water filter is another type that has become common these days.
These filters work by forcing the water to pass through a semi-permeable membrane.
This membrane allows water to pass through and blocks the impurities which have a bigger molecular size than water.
The trouble is - pesticides and prescription drugs have small molecular sizes and are able to pass through this membrane easily.
On the other hand, essential minerals like Zinc and Magnesium that our body needs for its proper functioning are blocked by the membrane.
This semi-filtered and de-mineralized water is far from being ideal and can cause health problems later.
Water Distillers are another kind of under sink water filters you can find in the market.
These units work by vaporizing the water and count on the impurities not being able to be vaporized.
So the water gets collected in a separate collector and the impurities are left behind.
The problem is - chemicals like chlorine vaporize easily too and get collected along with the purified water.
Only impurities like heavy metals which do not vaporize easily, are removed from the water.
Again, this purification process has limited effectiveness and doesn't provide complete protection.
A much better option is to use Multi-stage under sink water filters.
These filters use a combined force of Ion Exchange, Sub Micron Filtration, and Carbon Filtration techniques to remove all kinds of impurities from the water - chlorine, drugs, pesticides, heavy metals, bacteria - all of these are taken care of.
That too without stripping the water of its natural mineral content..
So, go ahead and look for under sink water filters that can remove all impurities from the water.
You won't have to worry about contaminated water ever again.
