How to Replace Glow Plugs on a Ford Power Stroke Diesel
- 1). Open and secure the hood of your vehicle.
- 2). Examine the center of the engine. Here is where you should see the glow plugs. They will be about three inches long, shaped like a pencil and metallic.
- 3). Remove the connection wire with your hands. The connection wire runs across all of the glow plugs and should be very easy to remove with a simple tug.
- 4). Place a deep socket wrench over the first glow plug. Make sure that the socket wrench sinks to the bottom of the glow plug, since that is where the retaining nut is.
- 5). Turn the socket wrench counterclockwise to loosen the glow plug. Do not try to remove the glow plug with the wrench, as you risk dropping the glow plug in the engine where it will be very hard to retrieve.
- 6). Remove the glow plug with your hand by pulling it straight out of the engine.
- 7). Insert a new glow plug in the empty channel.
- 8). Tighten the glow plug with your socket wrench by turning it clockwise.
- 9). Repeat Steps 4 to 8 for each of the remaining five glow plugs.
