How to Prime a Deisel Engine
- 1). Open the fuel supply valve. This allows fuel to get to the engine.
- 2). Open the bleed plug on the filter closest to the fuel tank.
- 3). Pump the hand priming pump until the fuel coming out of the bleed plug is free of air bubbles. Doing this forces fuel into the engine and forces air out, which lets the diesel flow on its own again.
- 4). Close the bleed plug after all air has been forced out.
- 5). Repeat this process for each filter, taking care to only do one at a time.
- 6). Idle the engine for a little while to force any extra air out.
