Cruise Cabins - How to Make the Perfect Choice
Choosing the cabin for your next cruise can make the difference between a fun-filled trip and a miserable experience.
I have been on several cruises and booked several of the different cabin types.
Each cabin type has it's advantages and disadvantages.
Room sizes and types can vary between cruise lines, but many of the major cruise lines have basic categories that rooms are grouped into.
The cheapest cabins on the ship are usually inside cabins because these cabins are located on the inside of the ship.
They don't have windows.
The first time I booked an inside cabin I was a little apprehensive about whether I would feel claustrophobic.
I was pleasantly surprised to find that the inside cabin still had plenty of room and I didn't feel constrained at all.
For cruisers that enjoy sleeping in late in the morning, an inside cabin provides a nice dark place to sleep.
If you are considering booking an inside cabin, you should take a look a deck plan of the ship you will be cruising on.
Make note if your potential cabin is located next to a stairwell, because these rooms can be noisier from people using the stairs.
The next setup up from the inside cabin is the cabins on the outside.
Outside cabins are often larger than inside cabins and include a window to the outside.
Your outside cabin may include a porthole or a full-sized normal window.
It was nice having natural sunlight in my outside cabin, however I did not spend much time looking out of it so it wasn't that important of a feature to me.
Moving up in features, size and price is the balcony cabin.
Slightly larger than standard outside cabins, these cabins have a door that allows you to walk out onto your own balcony.
Not all balconies are created equal and the one that I had on my last cruise provided me with the unforgettable experience of hearing my noisy neighbors the entire cruise.
One nice perk was the ability to sleep with the balcony door open and listen to the wind and the sea.
The suites are the cream of the crop when it comes to cruise cabins.
These are the largest and most expensive cabins on the ship.
If you enjoy cruising, then you owe it to yourself to try a suite at least once.
The large size and ample features will add to your enjoyment of your cruise.
