How to Allow More Downloads in Vista

    Use Firefox instead

    • 1). Go to the Firefox website listed in the resources section. Alternatively, go to the Google Chrome website in the resources section. This works because the problem is not with Vista, but with Internet Explorer. The simplest way to avoid this is to use a different piece of browsing software.

    • 2). Click on the "Download" button and launch the installer to install Firefox or Google Chrome on your system.

    • 3). Double click on the "Firefox" or "Google Chrome" icon wherever you installed it in order to run the new browser.

    Registry Hack

    • 1). Click on the "Start" button and enter "regedit" into the search bar.

    • 2). Browse through the registry until you see the following key "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings."

    • 3). Right click on the right hand side, and select "New" and then "DWord Value." Name the value "MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server" and then double click this and change the value to however many downloads you wish to use. It is advisable to keep the number to either three or four.

    • 4). Right click on the right hand side again, creating another new DWord value. Title this one "MaxConnectionsPerServer" and again double click and change the value to the required number. Three or four are again recommended.

    • 5). Restart Internet Explorer.
