The Truth, Whole Truth, and Nothing - But Social Media

103 13
The other day I was in the grocery store line, and someone picked up one of those tabloids, they were paging through the tabloid and giggling, and I thought that was rather humorous myself.
I mentioned to them that; "you know you can believe everything you read in there right, it's all true of course.
" And they started laughing because we all know that most of the garbage in the tabloids is nothing more than gossip and rumors, unless of course you are in England where they are actually tapping into people's cell phones to get juicy paparazzi information (okay, bad joke).
The interesting thing is that they say; "you can believe most of what you see, half of what you read, and none of what you hear.
" Now then, on social media websites people write all sorts of stuff, but as you know you can only believe half of that as you're reading it, or least you should know that.
And then they put up pictures, and videos, and theoretically we should be able to believe most of that.
But in reality it seems that social media is nothing more than a projected image of all the good things in someone's life, without any of their trials and tribulations, or those embarrassing things that they don't want people to know.
So I ask you; how can you trust social networks? Some people say you can trust social networks and social media more because if someone starts lying, there will always be someone to point out the facts, and bring the truth out.
I would submit to you that is not always the case, and as much as I'd like to believe that to be, I don't think we can trust anything in social media.
In fact there are often hoaxes, and people will come clean later and tell us the truth.
Then they laugh and say; "I gotcha didn't I?" Now then when it comes to; the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, so help you God - we have another challenge, and that is social media is being used more and more in the courtroom, and by police doing investigations.
It is used in the courtroom or by police investigators as evidence, but since we know a good portion of it is basically BS, then are we kidding ourselves really? Is social media really a reliable source? Most of it is hearsay and gossip, you know like the tabloids.
I would submit to you that information on these social networking sites might be in some instances be truthful, but often it isn't, and if we were to force the issue and the smell test, we would come to the conclusion, with empirical evidence from research that we cannot trust the information social networks.
Okay so, if we can't trust it, then why are we relying on this information to make decisions in our lives, our courts, in the hiring of individuals, or in the political process and decision-making by our elected representatives? The information on social media is too easily manipulated, and is too often false information.
Please consider all this and think on it.
