Glass Block Installation is an Easy Step by Step Project
Installing glass blocks is an easy step by step project that anyone with a little tool knowledge can be able to do.
Glass Block Installation has approximately 15 steps that can be completed with a little hard work and time.
Glass blocks make a dramatic effect in any room no matter where they are installed.
The first step of installing a glass block wall is to decide where you want it installed so once this is determined you can measure the location and take it to the hardware or home store and get all the materials that are needed instead of making multiple trips.
Once the location has been determined place a 1 x 2 board down and nail it into place as your frame, don't worry about how this looks because it will be covered up by the glass blocks coat the wood with a sealer so it blocks out moisture which will keep the wood from rotting.
Once the wood is sealed and nailed down you are now ready for the mortar.
The board is nailed down and sealed so you can bend the panel anchor into an L shape, you can nail these into the frame and add one every third row for added support.
Set your blocks with a spacer and mix the mortar, the mortar can be installed several different ways by a putty knife or a tool especially designed for mortar the mortar will go into the sill and if placed properly the mortar will squish out once another block is placed on top.
After you do this the spacer will need to be put into place and now you are ready for the first block, repeat with mortar until the first row is complete check with a level.
If any mortar gets onto any of the glass wipe it off immediately to avoid damage.
Complete 3 rows at a time and then place a wire stabilizer into place continue this until the wall is done.
Once all the blocks are set let it dry for 24-36 hours, caulk around the edges and install a wall panel these will be nailed into place with roofing nails, set a trim and clean the glass before use.
It's as easy as 1-2-3 you are done! Allowing yourself a little time to do the job right will make the wall gorgeous and dramatic yet still give you privacy because of the frosted color.
