How to Make Front Bolsters for a Cart
- 1). Remove the seat in which the bolster will be attached. Unscrew the bolts that connect the seat to the floor of the car with a socket wrench.
- 2). Remove any sensors or wires on the seat that connect it to the airbags sensors or electronic equipment. Look at how these connections are made before removing them, so that they can be easily reinstalled later.
- 3). Turn the seat upside down. Detach the metal clips that hold the upholstery to the rest of the seat frame with a pair of pliers. Rip the seam of the upholstery with a seam ripper. Loosen the seam more so that the foam inside the seat is exposed.
- 4). Measure and cut the extra seat foam to the desired size. Bolsters can be as small or as large as needed. Make sure, however, that the passenger can sit comfortably. Repeat the steps to make a second bolster.
- 5). Remove the upholstery so that the entire seat cushion is exposed. Place one bolster on each side of the foam. Attach them to the original foam seat using duct tape.
- 6). Pull the upholstery over the seat and bolsters. Pull it tight against the foam bolsters. Reattach the upholstery to the seat using the clips.
- 7). Turn the seat over and place it back in the cart. Attach any wires or sensors that were removed, and tighten the bolts holding the seat to the floor.
