    • 1). Power down the computer and remove the cables running into the back side of the system.

    • 2). Take out the Phillips screws along the edge of the computer. These screws hold the case onto the computer. Once the screws are gone, slide the case off to expose the computer interior.

    • 3). Find the current video card connected to the motherboard on the back side of the computer. This is where you usually connect your computer monitor. The card is connected to a thin slot called a PCI slot. On the PCI slot, next to the motherboard, is a locking button. Press this down to unlock the PCI slot. PCI slots are roughly half way down the motherboard aligned in horizontal rows. The cards are typically brown or orange in color and around four to five inches in length.

    • 4). Remove the current video card and slide in the new Direct3D video card. Press the locking button down to lock the card into place. The locking button is on either the right or left side of the PCI card slot, depending on the computer model. A small flap on the top of the button moves away from the PCI slot when pressure is applied. Once the flap is pressed all the way down the card slot unlocks. Slide the card straight out. To lock the new card into place, push the locking flap up, to its original position. You'll hear a slight snap, meaning the card is locked.

    • 5). Close the computer case. Attach the screws and plug the cables back into place. Power on the computer.

    • 6). Insert the driver installation CD that came with the Direct3D device. Click "Next," when the driver installation wizard appears. Leave the installation name and location as the default settings. Select "Install" and the drivers install onto your computer. Once complete you are all set to use your newly connected Direct3D device.
