For parents who don't want to use disposables, finding the right option can seem daunting. Re-usable diapers are quickly becoming a very popular option for those who want to take a more frugal approach to taking care of their baby. This is also one of the best ways that you can go green and leave less of an environmental impact. Some parents wonder how to get free cloth diapers, and that's something that can be done either by searching the local paper or perhaps asking friends or relatives. You can also find many give aways that are created to help parents try this great alternative to disposables.

Pocket diapers are a fairly new option in that search. First created by Tereson of Mother Eden, Fuzzi Bunz are the original. They got their beginning in 1998 and have quickly become a very popular option for parents who want the convenience of a disposable but their durability and ease of care make them one of the very best cloth diapers.

As far as re-usable diapers go, pocket diapers are a fairly simple concept in use with the BumGenius 4.0 leading the pack. They have a lining, or a pocket opening in the back usually that holds an insert. They're covered with an outer, waterproof shell that keeps leaks at bay and an inner piece of fabric that will be up against your baby's skin to wick moisture away. They don't require another cover, and usually don't require fitted cloth diapers on inside unless you're doubling up for night time use or have a heavy wetter that needs the extra protection. Most babies do not. These come in different options respective of size, either by age and weight range, or you can find them in one-size. Some are made from all natural fibers, but others may be synthetic and you can find them made with Velcro or snaps to keep them closed.
Caring for this particular type of diaper is fairly easy and straight forward. In taking care of them, you can be sure that they are longer lasting and doing their very best to prevent leakage and other problems. Recommended detergents for pocket diapers are specialized products like Rockin Green, Allens Naturally, or Fuzzibunz detergent. If you cannot find those, Ecover and 7th Generation are good second options, with Tide Free and Arm and Hammer Free also being acceptable for use. If you do decide to use a more well known "free and clear" style detergent to wash your re-usable diapers, it is always a good rule of thumb to only use about of what it recommends, for the load size you are washing.

Even the best cloth diapers can leak if you use fabric softeners in your laundry when caring for them. There is absolutely no need to use these in your fitted cloth diapers or other types, but a lesser known issue that can also be problematic is the use of softeners and dryer sheets with other loads of laundry. It can often cause problems because of the residue left inside of your machine. One of the best way to get around this, and help your washer not only run but smell better is to simply do a vinegar rinse cycle prior to washing your baby's things.

The Fuzzi Bunz brand boasts that they were created to help get rid of or prevent diaper rash all together. This is usually true of that style and also most fitted cloth diapers when used properly. However, if you do have a problem with rashes while using this kind of option, it's best not to use any ointments or creams as they can cause a build up or even ruin your diapers. Zinc oxide and corn starch pastes made at home are safer for this and will also help the baby's rash go away sooner.

So, what is the best way to keep the best cloth diapers performing beautifully and lasting a long time? Don't put anything in your laundry except for the detergent. The only exception to this rule is if you have hard water, you should use a little mild water softener to help prevent build up.
