My Frigidaire Refrigerator's Not Staying Cold

    Thermostat

    • The thermostat is the part of the refrigerator that regulates the temperature and tells the motor when to run. Setting the thermostat too high causes the motor to run less and the internal temperature to rise. Adjust the thermostat setting for the refrigerator compartment to 37 degrees Fahrenheit using the up and down arrow buttons on the control panel. Significant temperature changes take about 24 hours.

    Door Left Open/Cracked Seals

    • A rubber seal keeps cold air inside the refrigerator when the door is properly closed. Make sure the door closes properly. Bottles, jars and other bulky items on door shelves may be holding the door slightly ajar and allowing cold air to escape. Check the door seal for signs of damage: splits, tears and corrosion create the same effect as leaving the door open. Arrange to have the seal replaced if the damage is severe.

    Refrigerator Location

    • The refrigerator takes air from its environment, refrigerates it and pumps it into the freezer and fresh food compartments. Placing the fridge next to an oven, clothes dryer, radiator or other heat source will cause the motor to work harder and may cause elevated temperatures. Consider moving the refrigerator or the heat source farther away for best results.

    Power Supply

    • An intermittent problem with the power supply to the refrigerator may be allowing the air to warm up; check that the power cord is firmly plugged into an outlet without the use of an extension cord or other adapter. The voltage required by the refrigerator could overload an extension cord, causing it to short out. Check the fuse or breaker protecting the circuit if the outlet isn't working.
