Your Closet: To Organize or Not to Organize?

103 12
Everyone has a closet.
Some people choose to organize their closets, while others choose not to.
It is a personal preference, and here are a few reasons why someone may or may not choose to organize their closet.
The people who choose to organize their closet usually have one goal in mind: to maximize its efficiency.
Why does the efficiency level of a closet matter you might ask? A more efficient closet can reap two major benefits: it can save time and reduce stress.
A well planned and laid out closet helps the owner find items more quickly because everything in it will usually have a certain spot that makes sense to the owner.
Generally, items are grouped in one section of the closet together with similar ones.
For example, shoes might go on a shelf all together and be sorted by type so that when you are on the run and need to grab your boots, you will know exactly where to look.
Long sleeve shirts, sweaters, and vests could all be put in the same vicinity so you can grab one quickly when it is cold out.
Formal attire could have its own hanging space.
Ties, belts, and scarves might be placed in one spot.
You get the idea.
The more efficient and well thought out a closet is, the better it functions, which can save time in the everyday process of deciding what to wear.
Not only will a well functioning closet save you time, but it can also reduce stress.
How? Just think back to the last time you were supposed to be somewhere important and were looking for that one piece of clothing or that other shoe but just could not find it anywhere.
Ever have one of those mornings? Most everyone has.
Eventually that second shoe turns up somewhere else, (possibly under the bed? Or shoved in the back corner of the closet?).
You are now flustered and out of sorts because you have just spent the last 5 minutes searching for it.
What did the situation cause? Stress.
Not the good kind either.
On the other hand, some people may choose not to organize their closet(s) for several reasons.
These can include, but are not limited to: 1) It requires time upfront organizing, 2) It can require a financial investment, and 3) It is something that will require some maintenance in order to keep it organized.
Diving a little further it is obvious than an initial investment, of both time and money, is required if a person is interested in organizing their closet.
For some, it could be the financial aspect that causes them to pass on the organization.
For others, it could be that they just cannot take the time to initially get the actual thing organized.
Or, quite possibly, it just may not be deemed important enough of an issue to tackle and then spend more time in the upkeep of the closet.
All of these are very sound, and justifiable reasons to say "No thanks" when the thought of organizing their closet comes up.
To sum it all up for you, there are arguments for both sides of having an organized closet.
Valid arguments for organization include that it maximizes efficiency, which can save time in the everyday routine and reduce stress.
Valid arguments against organization include that it is time consuming, expensive, and not worth the effort.
Either way, deciding whether or not to organize your closet is a personal decision that needs to be made on a case by case scenario.
