How to Replace a Broken Double Insulated Window Pane
- 1). Remove the vinyl double hung-window's entire sash containing the broken or fogged-up insulating glass by depressing the liners slightly and then pulling out the top part of the sash. To release one side, twist the sash from the counter-weighted springs that are connected to the sash bottom.
- 2). Take the sash--or window pane--to a repair specialist, who will measure the size and thickness of the glass panel and provide you with the new insulated window pane.
- 3). Wearing protective gloves, remove any broken glass from the frame and remove the rubber gasket that runs along the window's entire frame.
- 4). Dismantle the window's frame by removing one side of the frame.
- 5). Slide the glass into the frame.
- 6). Wedge the gasket back into the inner frame slot, between the glass panel and one side of the frame slot. Reassemble and reinstall the window by reversing the steps used to remove it.
