Garage Plans - Pre-Emptive Home Improvement

103 14
So you want to build a garage? First things first-you need to plan for your plan! Whenever you decide to take on a big project, like building a garage, you need to consider more than just what you want the end result to look like.
It helps to start with brainstorming and a detailed list.
So, let's get started with your garage plans.
Brainstorming allows you to get all of your ideas down on paper and free your mind, so that you are ready to get down to the nitty-gritty part of the project.
Sit down with some scratch paper and write down all of the ideas you have.
What do you want the garage to look like? How big do you want it to be? What will be the main use of the garage? Will you take this project on alone, or will others be helping you? When would you ideally like to have the project completed? While brainstorming, you will surely forget a few of the details, but that is okay.
Remember, that is the whole purpose of this exercise: to free your mind so you are ready to focus on the details as you begin your list in the next step of planning.
Now that you have your scratch paper full of ideas, grand plans, and possibly even a few sketches, it is time to take out the fresh notebook (or computer, if you prefer) and start your list.
Here are key things to consider as you create your perfect garage plans: 1.
Where on the property will you build the garage? Keep in mind space and accessibility needs when answering this question.
2.
What is your budget? 3.
How big do you want the garage to be? Will you be using garage space for more than car storage-a work area, storage, or even a place to throw your significant other out to play poker or banter with pals on a nice summer day? 4.
After answering #3, you will need to consider if have this space available, along with enough open space to surround the garage.
Further, is there enough distance between the garage and the house (provided it is detached).
5.
You have enough space and know your size needs and wants, so now consider the location.
Investigate the land-utilities, plants and roots, level land, moisture, and power lines are all very important considerations.
6.
Labor: who will do the work? Will you do it yourself? Will you hire someone-if so, get a few quotes and choose that which works best for you (this does not always mean that the cheapest is the best option).
7.
What style do you want to use? This is where many of your ideas from your previous brainstorming will likely come into play.
There are plenty to choose from, so don't forget that you have options in the categories of door type, roof type, and flooring type.
This is the time to put your imagination to work.
This is a great starting list to jumpstart your garage plans and take the first steps toward what can be a truly fun and rewarding project.
As you consult with friends, professionals, and builders, your plans will fall into place easier than you might expect.
Remember not to get discouraged.
The garage plans are often the most difficult part for people, as the hands-on dirty work is far more enticing.
The pre-planning, thought-out details in advance and being prepared will pay off in the end.
Stay positive, dream big, and build the garage of your dreams!
