How to Make a Greek Headdress
- 1). Measure around your head, positioning the tape along your hairline instead of directly across your forehead. Add about 3 inches to your final measurement. For instance, if your head measures 12 inches around, your final measurement is 15 inches.
- 2). Nip a piece of 14 gauge square wire matching your final measurement, or 15 inches in this case. Wrap it around your head to form it into a circle.
- 3). Twist the ends of the wire around each other twice. This creates a flat, secure lock for your headdress. Grip the excess wire with pliers and bend the wires into tight or loose coils. These coils will sit at the back of your head.
- 4). Cut a second piece of square wire about half as long as your first piece, or 7 1/2 inches in this case. Gently form and bend the wire against your hairline to create a half-circle.
- 5). Place the half-circle on top of the full circle. Wrap each end of the half-circle around the wire of the full circle twice. Bend the wire ends of the half-circle into spirals.
- 6). Lift the half-circle upward, creating a rounded opening at the front of your headdress. This is where the decoration will go.
- 7). Decide on decoration for the front of your headdress. You may wrap pieces of 20-gauge round wire along the top and bottom of the opening and curl them into a pattern of spirals or wavy lines. Try wrapping the wire vertically over the opening figure-eight style. Add beads to any of these patterns for extra embellishment.
